Promoting Eye Health Awareness Among Youth in Suriname

Lions Club Paramaribo Central, in collaboration with the Eye Care Foundation Netherlands, donated a batch of books to the Minister of Health for the benefit of youth. Availability/distribution will be through schools and outpatient clinics visited by young people. The books cover material about the health and functioning of the human eye.

The books are written in a fairly simple Dutch language intended for youth and other target groups. The professional assessment was carried out by the Dutch ophthalmologist Dr. Cees van der Windt and the Surinamese ophthalmologist doctor Jerrel Pawiroredjo from the Academic Hospital Paramaribo. The books provide sufficient information about the functioning of the human eye. As is known, young people spend a lot of time on computers and smartphones every day without taking into account the risks to their eyesight.

By publishing this book, the Lions would like to lend a helping hand in the preventive care of the eyesight of young people. Other target groups can also gain a lot of knowledge from this book. The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, will distribute these books at schools and through health centers where young people visit. Through this project, our Lions Club fulfills its mission in the field of vision / sight first, says Lion Glenn Tewari PMJF President of Lions Club Paramaribo Central.
